Children’s Museum and Lowcountry Earth Force Team Up for Community Mural Project at Green Fair

The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry (CML) and Lowcountry Earth Force will team up on Sunday, September 28th to paint a giant community mural at the First Annual Green Fair in Marion Square Park from noon – 6 p.m..
Lowcountry Earth Force and CML devised the mural project to support the Cannonborough/Elliotborough neighborhood green space initiative. The initiative will establish green space at the Old City Garage on Line Street. Says Anna Richardson of Lowcountry Earth Force, “This project illustrates to children they have a stake in beautifying their neighborhood and that they too can become active members of their community.” CML Executive Director, Georgina Ngozi, agrees, “Nothing is more inspiring to children than the power of art. I can’t wait to see the finished mural go up in the park.”
Once completed, the mural, to be located at 132 Line Street, will be installed and dedicated on October 1st. A formal park dedication by the City of Charleston will take place on October 25th. Funding for the community mural project was provided by a grant from the Medical University of South Carolina.
The mission of the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is to spark the love of learning in all children ages three months to twelve years through interactive, interdisciplinary hands-on environments and experiences with the arts, sciences and humanities while fostering creative thinking and problem solving skills and a belief in their own potential.
